Are Greek Freak and Bledsoe the Future for the Bucks?

The Milwaukee Bucks traded Greg Monroe and two draft picks for 27 year-old Eric Bledsoe. Bledsoe averaged 21 points 6 assists and 5 rebounds last season.

For those of you who don’t know Bledsoe’s game, I like to compare him to a poor man’s Westbrook. He does a little bit of everything, and is a freakish athlete. This was a very interesting trade, because when looking at the Bucks’ potential starting 5, they can be a very dangerous squad:

PG- Eric Bledsoe

SG- Khris Middleton – Great three point shooter

SF- Giannis Antetokounmpo – MVP Candidate

PF- Jabari Parker – Out with torn ACL, so move Giannis to the 4 and put Rookie of the Year Malcolm Brogdon at the wing.

C – Thon Maker – A dude who no one knows, but apparently he’s another unicorn and is going to be a MVP.

This is definitely the most athletic team in the league, and can break out some dangerous small ball lineups with Giannis at the 4. They might have some issues in the half-court though.

Yes, the Bucks are going to destroy teams in transition with Giannis and Bledsoe’s crazy athleticism. However, Jason Kidd is going to have to figure out who the primary ball handler is. Eric Bledsoe had trouble sharing the ball with Goran Dragic in Phoenix, and it seems that Giannis is flourishing as the primary ball handler.

The Bucks have the ability to potentially break records in fast break efficiency due to their length on the defensive end (can disrupt passing lanes and cause turnovers), and ability to run the floor. However, in the playoffs when the pace slows down, it’s questionable how this team is going to be utilized in a half-court offense.

Bledsoe is going to contribute with his great defense and athleticism, but he’s not going to stretch the floor in half-court situations. He did average 33% from 3 last season, which is not abysmal. A lot of the Bucks post season success will be based on Bledsoe’s jump shot, because teams will allow him to get whatever he wants from the perimeter.

Overall, the Bucks became a much better team today. Since the Cavs can’t win a game unless 15-year man LeBron scores 57 points in a game, the Eastern Conference seems to be wide open. Can Giannis and Bledsoe mesh, allowing the Bucks to make a run?
